Overview of Mentoring Brother 2 Brother
Mentoring Brother 2 Brother, Inc., is a Dallas, Texas based, IRS 501c3 non-profit mentoring program that targets at-risk and disenfranchised African American young men between the ages of six and eighteen within the South Dallas community. Mentoring Brother 2 Brother (MB2B) programs are designed with the mission and vision to support the social, emotional and cultural well being of youth who are often targets of peer pressures toward behavior that is risky, and sometimes life-threatening. All MB2B programs (mentoring, tutoring, community service, leadership, spirituality, etc.) are designed to be strong in discipline, prevention and intervention components dealing both with the youth and their parent and/or guardian. One of the primary goals of Mentoring Brother 2 Brother program is to develop strong leadership skills in these young men in the areas of peer influence, character and integrity as well as provide service-learning opportunities through a diversity of community service projects during the program year. Mentoring Brother 2 Brother Unmasking The HERO Male Youth Conference Overview
There is a great need within the African American community for events, conferences, workshops and summits that specifically target our African American young men. Recent studies and research reflect that many of our African American male youth encounter a culture and society that often does not support or celebrate who they are or give the necessary direction and empowerment these young men so desperately need. Positive influences are often few and far between and MB2B wishes to offer as creative and targeted solution to a very large societal problem affecting our African American young men through a one-day conference with a mission of providing the tools, resources, as well as a new thinking processes and positive male images of what other alternatives are available to them beside derogatory rap, gang, drugs and other negative peer, personal and societal influences.
As there are and have been many youth summits, conferences and other similar workshops with the Dallas/Fort Worth metroplex community, there have been very few if any of these types of events that are specifically designed and targeted for African American male youth. Mentoring Brother 2 Brother wishes to be a catalyst and community leader for the development of this type of summit or conference.
